Adam Rouhana: Before Freedom - Frieze No. 9 Cork Street

Adam Rouhana, A Lion's Watermelon (بطيخة أسد), 2022.

'I started making this body of work in 2022. Before Freedom looks at the current moment we are in today in Palestine – the moment before we are free.' Adam Rouhana

Adam Rouhana has been taking photographs in Palestine since he was a child, a practice which has grown into the body of work Before Freedom (2022-ongoing).

Rouhana’s first solo exhibition, curated by Amah-Rose Abrams, will be a selection of his images of Palestinian life. Before Freedom presents a certain truth: a truth of the reality in Palestine that moves beyond rolling news and biased, outmoded documentary photography and photojournalism. These are tableaux that put the viewer in the shoes of Palestinians today. While the body of work has been covered in The New York Times, Aperture, and Dazed, this is the first time it will be exhibited.
