OPENING: DECOLONISING THE BODY - Bermondsey Project Space

Decolonising The Body is a collaborative exhibition of work by Skaped’s community that unpacks what decoloniality means to us and our bodies.

Following their successful programme Decolonising the Body, Skaped has curated this exhibition of community art as a celebration of the experiences and learning undertaken.

An artivist charity based in East London, Skaped works with young people to educate them about community building and human rights through the creative arts. Decolonising the Body was a six-week programme of creative workshops which explored topics such as intersectionality, wellbeing, GLAM institutions and menstruation. Skaped then invited members of our community, both local and global, to submit artworks that corresponded to the prompt of Decolonising the Body. This exhibition is a culmination of those submissions, which span a number of mediums and art practices, all of which reflect what decolonising the body means to our community.

In addition to their community submissions, Skaped have the work of three Artists in Residence, who participated in all six workshops and were mentored by Skaped’s creative team. Their pieces are directly influenced by their experiences and learning taken from the workshops and mentorship programme.
